Fusion & HOBY

A new school calendar year has begun and that means a new year of serving with SCC Fusion and a new HOBY KY year!!  I am excited for what the LORD has planned for both of these groups that I am serving with!

I have a great group of girls in my Life Group at SCC and I can’t wait to see how the Lord is going to use them this year!  I love these girls so much! I love getting to serve them and serve with them.  I am excited that they desire to know the Lord more each year.  They decided that their goal this year are to serve more as a group out in the community.  The also want to study Ruth & Colossians together this year!  I look forward to seeing how we grow together as a group and as Sisters in Christ this year!

Not only do I have a great group of girls in my Life Group, but I have a wonderful staff of volunteers working with me at HOBY KY!  I can’t wait to see how our program grows and develops this year!! As I was working on getting an agenda together for our meeting in a couple weeks I became even more excited for our 2014 seminar!  I have a talented staff and they truly make the seminar run!  I am blessed to get to serve as the LSC at KY this year & know that some great things will be accomplished through our Ambassadors.

Even though this is going to be a very busy year for me with SCC Fusion, HOBY KY, full time classes at Liberty and a full time job (with possible promotion), I couldn’t be more excited for what the Lord has in store and how He is going to use me this year!

So the first trip that I had last month was to HOBY (aka Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar) at Transylvania University.  This is the leadership program that I have been involved with for 6 years now.  This year I was serving as a facilitator for B3!  This week was a blast.  Here’s a recap…

Wednesday afternoon and evening: staff meetings and preparations

Thursday, Friday, & Saturday: lots of group time, awesome speakers, activities, service projects, amazing race, talent show, dance, and much more!

Sunday: last group meeting and closing ceremonies

Needless to say it was a lot of fun packed into a very short amount of time.

Here are some of my favorite parts:

1. The Amazing Race: after talking about being leaders and group leadership, it was great to see my ambassadors work together to finish the race and have fun doing it.  We even had time to stop at Dunkin Donuts for drinks and donuts.  We had a blast!

2. Group Meetings: this is the 3rd year I have been one of the leaders in a group and the 1st year that I was the main leader.  It was fun getting to see B3 grow as team and friends.  We were able to cross barriers and differences to see what mattered most about people.  It is so rewarding to see people come together for a weekend and grow close to each other.  My hope is that they have formed friendships that will last a lifetime.  To this day I still talk to people that I went to HOBY with and that I have worked HOBY with.

L4S (aka Leadership for Service): This is our service part of the weekend.  One of our main things for students to take away from HOBY is volunteering and serving their community.  We challenge them to complete 100 hours of service over the next year. During the seminar we host a service project, or many service projects for the students to participate in.  This year I was in charge of a group doing trash pickup in Lexington.  We were split away from our regular groups and put into new service project group.  This was a challenge since I had ambassadors who didn’t know each other and hadn’t spent the weekend growing as a team, but all in all it went well.  We were able to clean up a large area in a rougher part of town.  Hopefully people will see that we cared about their community and will now take time to care about it too.

Anyway, that is just a little bit about HOBY and the weekend I had!
